On the Line Australia (OTLA) is delighted to present our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan.
“A vital step in progressing our vision for a society free from suicide and psychological distress”
This is a vital step in progressing our vision for a society free from suicide and psychological distress where everyone can access the support they need to promote good mental health, connection to community, and positive relationships. Promoting reconciliation is a crucial part of this vision.
OTLA was established in 1960 by mental health reformer, Dr Cunningham Dax, and group of dedicated volunteers who established the first free mental health helpline for Melbourne residents. Today, we support people across the country through our services which include MensLine, Changing for Good, Suicide Call Back Service, and SuicideLine Victoria.
We commence this journey acknowledging the historical and continued impact of colonisation, discriminatory government practices and systemic racism for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, which has meant that they have poorer health and wellbeing outcomes than non-Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.
We commit to seeking and respecting the guidance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander partners and communities as we take these first steps on the path to reconciliation.
